Did anyone ever hear of, read, or saw the book, 1984, before? It's Copyright date is 1949 for the record.

I'm just wondering because I recently decided to check-out the book from my school library, and from what I've read so far, it seems really interesting.

Here's the Wikipedia page breaking down and explaining the themes, concepts, and background editorials of 1984.

It's a really good book. Every one should read it.

Remember, Big Brother is always watching you in the distant future of 1984.

And as long as we're on the topic of books, has anyone here ever read The Illustrated Man, by Ray Bradbury?

People obsess about it.

We should have died a very long time ago, you and I, the instant we fell upon this sandy land, without pain, and without sorrow.

People should not obsess about it. But every one should read it.

I don't say this in some sort of "It will change your life!" or "It's exactly what's happening now!" panic-mode. It's just a good book with an interesting take on society and all that other deep, intellectual, smarty-pants stuff. So, that said, there's tons of books every one should read. I probably won't read half of them.

1984 is actually a pretty good, worthwhile "classic".

It is an alright book. Not really worth a re-read, though. It is a bit over-taught (I will be having to re-read it for a THIRD time pretty soon here).

I would also recommend Orwell's Animal Farm if you are into dystopian cautionary tales, though most people who have read 1984 will have already read it.

Once I am finished with 1984, I'm definitely going to read Animal Farm, as it was suggested by various friends.

Note: Thank-you Chiswyck for also recommending Animal Farm. : )
